    History is not only about men. There are many areas of life that would completely different but for thousands of brave and determined women. As many of them seem to have been already forgotten, why don't we pay tribute to them and remind today's world about them. Let their actions speak once more.

    American philanthropist, a social activist and the first Afro-American millionaire in US. She worked as a seamstress and housemaid. She patented some hair-care products for Afro-Americans. She also established a beauty salon and a school for travelling saleswomen who sold cosmetics.

    An Italian painter who was one of the first woman to have taken up the subject of religion and history. At first she worked in her father's studio, where she displayed a talent outstripping her brothers'. One of her first ingenuous paintings was 'Susanna and the Elders'. She painted it at the age of 17. She was the first woman to be admitted to the Florence Accademia del Disegno.

    An American journalist and a reporter who specialized in investigative journalism. She went undercover to be admitted to the mental hospital on Blackwell's Island. She reported the horrible conditions there. Inspired by Julius Verne's '80 Days Round the Globe' she decided to follow the trail. The journey took her 72 days, 6 hours, 11 minutes and 14 seconds. She was the first woman to have traveled around the world unaccompanied by any men.

    The American housewife who invented the dishwasher. The first models were manually powered, the next were equipped with a steam engine. She advertized her invention in local press and received a prize at the World's Fair in Chicago, 1893.
