10 Tricks to Help You in the Garden
Gardening tricks are always welcome. Our work in the garden is easier and our yield is much better. Perhaps some of the tricks below will also work in your garden?
#1 Fish fertiliser and seaweed
Fish fertiliser and seaweed contain a lot of useful bacteria. 3 tablespoons of fish fertiliser and seaweed fertiliser is enough for 10 litres of water. Use the mixture to water your pots and other containers before you actually do the planting. The fertiliser will provide a lot of useful bacteria that will enhance the growth of your plants.
#2 Seeds quality test
If you have some old seeds and you don’t really know whether using them will make any sense, do the following test. Take a container with a lid, put inside a damp piece of wet towel and drop a few seeds onto it. 5 will do.
Close the container for a few days.
If, after 7 – 10 days, the seeds start to sprout, you can use the rest of the seeds in the garden.
#3 Holes in plastic pots
Each container for flowers and other plants should have holes in the bottom so that the excess of water can leak out. If they are not there, use a drill or a hot piece of metal to pierce plastic.
#4 The wonders of aspirin
If you want to help your tomatoes, 250 – 500 mg of this medicine is enough for 5 litres of water. Water the tomatoes with the solution. Don’t forget to pour some over the leaves. This prevents a lot of diseases, especially caused by fungus.
Please note that if you cannot take aspirin yourself, you shouldn’t use it in your vegetable garden, either.
#5 Egg shells
Egg shells are a good source of calcium for plants. They also enrich the compost. If you have some egg shells, grind them in a blender and throw it into your compost.
#6 Epsom salt
A secret ingredient necessary to grow peppers, aubergines and tomatoes. The soils is often poor in magnesium and sulphur. Epsom salt compensates for it. Take two teaspoonful for 5 litres of water.
#7 Supports for climbing plants
If you don’t have a ladder for the climbing plants, 3 sticks or strips will do. Just bind them with some tape. Imagine you are trying to make a wooden shelter.
That will also work with pea and other climbing plants.
#8 White cauliflower
Planting cauliflower in your garden? If you want it to be snow white, give it some shade. Protected from the sun, it won’t go yellowish. For example, you can loosely tighten the leaves so that the vegetable is covered.
#9 Labels
If you use labels to mark your plants, you definitely use a waterproof marker. If you want to remove previous mark, simply use some alcohol. Of course the stronger the alcohol, the better it will work.
#10 Composting leaves
To accelerate the process of composting leaves, scatter them in one place and use the lawn mower if you have one with the container for cut grass. The smaller the pieces of leaves, the faster they will decompose.
