Summer weather can change very quickly sudden hailstorms can be stressful when not prepared. It is worth knowing what to do when driving a car in case the weather suddenly gets worse. Take these tips into account next bad weather strikes you behind the wheel. While it’s better to be in your car than outside during a hailstorm, you still need to take proper precautions to avoid danger during severe weather.
#1 Don't leave your car. A sudden lightning strike could prevent you from returning or restarting your car
#2 Whatever happens don't turn off the engine. This will allow you to react as quickly as possible to unforeseen accidents
#3 If possible pull off the road and stop the car. Park your car under a solid roof, at a gas station or on the side of the road (be sure to turn on your hazard lights).
#4 Observe your surroundings and be aware of where you have stopped. It is very easy to get stuck in such a place due to mud and water accumulation
#5 If you are on a highway, it is better to slow down than stop completely - you don't know what the drivers behind you will do
#6 Don't park under trees. A lightning strike can knock them onto your car. If there are only trees in your path, park under one that has light and thin branches
#7 Make sure your lights are on, they make you more visible to others
#8 Slow down if you see a large puddle ahead. It could be much deeper than you think
#9 You can use your CB-radio if you have one and inform others of possible dangers around
#10 Equip your car with a flashlight and a phone charger. It could be your golden passage, whilst waiting out the storm
#11 While it might seem like a silly tip, moving yourself towards the middle of the vehicle and away from the windows a few more inches can save you from serious injury
