If your house or cooker is powered with natural gas, there is a risk of a leak. Once you smell it at night, do not switch on the light. A single spark can ignite the accumulated gas and trigger explosion.

#7 The smell of fish
If you suddenly smell some fish in your house, this is very likely the smell of a burning socket or other parts of electrical wiring. Check all the system for overheating before anything catches fire. The plastic in sockets and other pieces are made of a variety of chemical compounds to resist high temperatures. However, once they fail and melt, they give off a smell really similar to the one of fish.
