Although we do our best, we still make one big mistake – we tend to store a variety of detergents, cosmetics, medications and electric appliances there. Today we will advise you on what things should not be kept in the bathroom.

    #1 Medications

Most medications have to be stored in dry places at moderate temperatures. Unfortunately, bathrooms rarely meet this criterion and that affects appropriate work of the medicines kept there. If your home first aid kit is in the bathroom, you really need to take it somewhere else.

    #2 Cosmetics and make-up tools

With respect to storage conditions, cosmetics have very similar requirement to those of medications. Temperature fluctuations and excessive humidity make them lose their properties much faster.

Currently, more and more cosmetics are based on natural ingredients. Consequently, the bathroom is not the right place for them.

Apart from face, body and hair cosmetics, also perfumes and nail polish shouldn’t be stored there. Brushes and other make-up accessories become hotbed for bacteria as the steam, while cooling, sits on everything together with all the microorganisms it carries.

    #3 Electric and electronic appliances

No electric/ electronic device is humidity-resistant. Perhaps apart from a washing machine (though exposed for years to water goes rusty, too!)

Electric razors, hair dryers and hair straighteners lifetime is much shorter when they are kept in bathrooms. In the worst scenario storing them there might lead to a short circuit!

    #4 Jewelry

Artificial jewelry with metal elements can go rusty if kept in humid conditions. Silver pieces go greyish.

    #5 Towels and bed linen

Some of us keep them in bathroom cabinets. Most natural fabric are not resistant to microorganisms and mold, which are pretty common in bathrooms. We’d better find another spot where we can keep them.

Of course space in our apartments is very often a luxurious commodity. Finding another place for things we store in the bathroom may not be easy. If it turns out to be impossible, you can minimize the risk by providing good ventilation of the bathroom so that the humidity won’t be such a nuisance.
