#1 The tray is on a wrong level

The right level is the key thing. If the tray is too high or too low, it results in inappropriate exposure to the source of the heat. The solution? Of course you need to compromise. The dish will get evenly heated if put somewhere in the middle. Top heating can be used for caramelizing while the bottom one to heat the appliance quickly.

    #2 Don't be too spontaneous

Make sure you always choose exactly the same temperature as the one your recipe suggests.

    #3 Wrong settings

The newer the oven the more functions it offers. Unfortunately this can be misleading sometimes. This is not a problem, however, if we remember where we store the user's manual. Reading it can save so many meals!

    #4 Inappropriate warm-up

The oven has to warm up properly before you put the dish in. Especially if we are talking about gas-powered cookers. If your dishes get their bottoms burnt, it means they were put inside too quickly.

    #5 Faulty thermostat

Sometimes we trust the oven a little bit too much. The temperature seems ok, the baking time is fine, the tray level is ok, yet things are going wrong. It might all come down to a faulty thermostat. To check whether it works properly you need a baking thermometer. If the thermostat does not switch the heating off, it means you have to replace it.

    #6 Faulty heater

If your dish gets burnt on one side only, it means that one of the heater can be faulty, if you see that it is covered with some dark residue, you had better replace it immediately, as it might mean it does not get heated evenly and consequently burns a part of your dish.
