A Court Built of 20,000 Recycled Sneakers. Nike Uses Waste and Garbage as Raw Materials
Some time ago that could be nothing but a fantasy. Today it has become a reality. In Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, a basketball court was built using only recycled sneakers as construction materials.
Not just a court
Apart from the basketball there is a playground, a few benches and an outdoor gym – everything made of recycled stuff.
Eco-court by NIKE
It was the NIKE corporation who developed the place. To do it, they hired one of the trendiest British designer studios these days.
#MoveToZero Campaign
The court was created as part of the #MoveToZero Campaign which promotes a ‘green’ image of the sport clothing tycoon.
‘Zero Waste’ Project
The Project promotes the “Zero Waste’ approach, that is reusing all waste and garbage as much as possible, as well as Nike as a corporation that seeks to minimize CO2 emission.
Happy locals
The court was welcomed by the citizens who are glad they have somewhere to play and relax.
Criticism
Of course there are always some who look down on it. Some people find the design as weird and far-fetched promotion.
