A Woman Marries Her Cat to Get Round the Pet Ban

If it wasn’t for the fact that this story did happen, I would never believe it. A woman wanted to live together with her pets, but the landlords she came across would never allow for pets.

‘We will get married and nothing will keep us apart.’

Deborah Hodge (49) is a Brit currently living in a small town of Sidcup (one of London’s bedrooms). Although the owner of the flat she rents does not allow to keep pets in the apartment, Deborah is living there together with car pussy cat called India. The woman claims to have recently married the pet so that the landlord won’t be able to separate them and will have to come to terms with the fact that the animal is there, too.

    Sad goodbyes

As Deborah admits, people think she is insane because of what she has done. She believes that it was just a symbolic act to emphasize the fact how much she loves India and she could go to lengths just to be with her. She had had to say goodbye to two dogs and a cat (India’s mother) before and there is no way she wants to go through it again. Bearing in mind India is disabled as she has three legs only, it would be really difficult to find someone to adopt the poor animal.

    Mad or smart?

Contrary to the first thoughts you might be having, Deborah is not as crazy as one might think. There is a lot of rationale behind it – thanks to marrying the cat (and this marriage is bound to be illegal) the woman got a lot of publicity. She might be hoping to use public pressure against the landlord in order to bring him round. We don’t know yet whether her plan will come off. As of now, Deborah is taking into account the risk of being evicted.
