An Australian confectioner gives away her secret

Slicing the cake properly is a challenge. When it is a huge wedding cake or even a big birthday one, it is getting even harder. Katherine Sabbath shares her cake-slicing hack co that we all can cut out nice and proportional pieces. Although surprising, it is really practical!

Catering companies have been using it for years

Equal portions for every single guest at the party is a fundamental principle. Cutting out triangular pieces is very popular but not the best way, though. Catering companies usually serve… rectangular pieces. The idea was shown by Katherine Sabbath, but in fact confectioners have been relying on it for years. It was her Instagram post that made it far more popular.

Step 1: Gently press a cutting board against a cake cut in two.

Step 2: Slice up one piece so that it falls onto the board.

Make sure it doesn’t slide off the board. Hold it with the knife.

Step 3: Cut the piece into smaller ones.

In this way each guest will get their share. They won’t be too big so you will reduce the risk of throwing away too much of the cake. See how Katherine does it:
