    Gregg Segal is a photographer who traveled the world and looked at the diet of children living on different continents. In his pictures he showed how children eat throughout the week. Eating habits of children are influenced by the material status of their parents and the place where they grow up. Behind their weekly menu there are touching stories.

    #1 Meissa Ndiaye, 11 years old, Dakar (Senegal)

    The boy lives in one room with his mom, dad and brother. He loves goat meat, oatmeal, and soccer. He would like to become a famous football player. During the week he mostly ate baguettes with spaghetti, peas and fried potatoes.

    June likes to dance, sing, and reads vampire books before bed. She would like to have a dog, but her parents don't agree. She likes schnitzel very much and is not keen on broccoli and curry. Her mother is a fashion photographer, and during meals she listens to her parents' discussions (usually about politics).

    The girl belongs to the Yawalapiti tribe and lives in the Amazon. She loves to read history books, and in her village there is no electricity or constant access to water. Once every few months, Kawakanih goes on a journey to get to school. The red paint is supposed to protect her from evil spirits. Her diet consists mainly of fish, fruit and nuts. If you want something for dinner, you have to go to the river and catch fish.

    He lives in California with his parents. He plays guitar, practices karate and likes bow ties. He loves Thai food (his mom is from Thailand). He would like to become a neurosurgeon in the future.

    They live with their fathers in California. The family raises chickens and the backyard grows blackberries, peaches, figs, pomegranates, and bananas. Alexandra loves macaroni and cheese. She wants to write a PhD in the future and currently collects shells and rocks. Jessica loves ham pizza and candy. She likes to draw and would like to become a writer.

    Paolo lives with his family of four in the east of Sicily. He loves pizza. He knows how to make pasta, donuts, and of course, pizza. His mom buys a roast chicken once a week. If he had a lot of money he would treat his family to a vacation, buy a huge Lego set and a console.

Adveeta is a vegetarian and likes dosa pancakes (made from lentils and rice) the best. She also eats a lot of sweets and prefers solving puzzles to dolls. She wants to become a veterinarian.

He knows how to do front flips. He dreams about his parents being together again. One day his mother promised Frankie that she would take him to the beach. Eventually she changed her mind. Then the boy cried.

    Her parents divorced. She has a very healthy diet. She owes it to her father, who runs a restaurant. She eats a lot of fish, salads, pancakes, lentils, sausages. He doesn't like cucumbers or spinach. He does kickboxing, gymnastics, rock climbing, and does magic tricks. He has everything in life.

She looks with admiration at her sister who is more sociable than her and plays the violin.

    The house where the boy lives is 200 km from the nearest town. It has no water, no electricity, no television. He has six siblings. They all bathe and wash their clothes in a nearby river. Ademilson goes to school, and in the afternoon he works in the fields. His parents grow fruits, vegetables, rice, sugar cane and produce coconut oil. They use ash as fertilizer. The boy loves mango and paçoca (a dessert made from peanuts). He tried a hot dog once and did not like it very much. In his hand he holds buriti, a species of Amazonian palm tree that the locals use for many purposes (building houses, making cloth and oil).
