A Couple Move Their House to the Other Side of the Lake to Save It

This sounds like a plot of a surreal movie. A Canadian couple did not want their house to be demolished. So they decided to take it to the other side of the lake, using a couple of motorboats and a smart system of sinkers.

The Penneys come from Newfoundland in Canada

Some time ago they decided to settle in a picturesque area, somewhere by a harbor or a lake. After long search they came across a house from their dreams and rented it.

    Terminated contract

In July this year the owner of the land announced that he was going to terminate the contract as he had new plans as for the land development.

    The Penneys were broken-hearted

All their dreams collapsed in a blink of an eye. They were afraid they would have to say goodbye to something they got attached to so much. And there was no other house they would ever move into. Only the one they already had.

    A new spot

After some time the couple managed to find a piece of land on the other side of the lake where they could build a new house. Still, they felt that leaving the old one would be a hard thing to do.

A last-minute idea how to save the old house

The solution they came up with was a brave one. They decided to move (literally) their house onto the new land. The owner of their plot was planning to knock the building down anyway.

Carrying a house across a lake

Using cranes the Penneys first put their house onto a special platform and then, using a fleet of motorboats, they went on to pull it across the lake.

    Problems on the splashdown

The crossing was not easy and there were some thrilling moments, too. At one point the house began to sink but somehow the team managed to save it. In the end the house safely reached the other side.

    A happy ending

The house has to go through the tedious process of dry-out as it was flooded during the crossing. Of course it doesn’t change the fact that the family will be able to live in their beloved place. Congratulations!

Are you attached to your house as much as the family?
