How to Clean a Cooker Grate? There Is an Easy and Eco‑Friendly Way

We all have happened to burn some milk on the cooker. Or let the noodles boil a bit too long. Giving it a good clean takes so much time that we normally just wipe it. However, a wipe is never enough to get rid of burnt grease. Luckily, we know a way you can do it in a blink of an eye!

How to clean a cooker grate

In case of a small one, you can put in into a dishwasher. This is by far the easiest and fastest way. Unfortunately you can’t fall back on it if the grate is too large.

In such case (or when the burnt grease is too stubborn to be removed in a dishwasher or with vinegar) you have to rely on another solution.

    Things you need:

    • 2-3 packets of baking soda,

    • a lot of warm water,

    • a pair of rubber gloves,

    • a sponge,

    • a spatula,

    • some thick foil,

    • a stapler

Hold the foil and the stapler. Put the grate on the foil and cut it 10 cm off the grate. When you get the right size, hold the foil corners and staple them. The foil has to work as a 'temporary bathtub' where you will wash the grate.

    Step 2

Turn the grate upside down. Now protect the foil 'bathtub' with extra foil stripes. You will create a structure that will reinforce the whole thing preventing water from spill.

Pour some baking soda through the holes. Add hot water so that the whole grease will get covered.

Gently move the grate so that the solution reached all spots. Leave it there for three hours.

Unstaple one corner and carefully pour the water out into a bowl or a bucket. Then get rid of all the stripes.

Turn the grate and scratch off all the dirt using  the spatula. The baking soda solution will make it come off much more easily.

Use the spatula gently to avoid damaging the coating!

Finally use a dump sponge to wipe it all.

And that's it! The grate is clean! In this way you can remove even the most stubborn dirt!
