Reliable Ways to Keep the inside of Your Rain Boots Clean and Preserve the Rubber They Are Made Of
Rain boots, just like any other kind of footwear, have to be properly taken care of. Most importantly, this also refers to their inside.
The outside
Rubber footwear has to be cleaned every time you get back home. Using running water wash the dirt and with a sloth or a soft sponge clean them, applying soapy water or washing-up liquid. Don't use rough sponges as they may scratch the surface. Also remember to clean the sole well. You can use an old toothbrush for that purpose. Finally, leave them somewhere to dry (but far away from radiators or direct sun).
The inside
If some water gets inside, pour some peas or beans pre-heated in an oven. The pulses will absorb the moist.
Soak a cloth with water mixed with a washing detergent and rub the inside of the boot. You can also easily disinfect it using white vinegar with water (1:1 ratio) – pour the mixture into a spray bottle and apply inside the boot.
If the inside gives off a nasty smell, pour in some baking soda (a quarter glass into each) and leave it there for the night. In the morning remove the soda.
Maintenance
Grease your rain boots at least once a month. This will preserve the gloss. To do that, mix a spoonful of glycerin with a glass of lukewarm water. Soak a cloth in it and rub your boots.
If you have a dedicated car-tire maintenance agent, you can use it, too. Not only will it do the cleaning, but it will also leave a protection layer.
