Summer is the time of sunny weather and fresh fruit. Unfortunately this is also the time when our houses are visited by some annoying little insects flying over fruit trays, sweet drinks and jam rolls. How can we get rid of fruit flies that appear out of nowhere and cling on to almost everything on their way?

The easiest solution is a natural trap that will attract all of the insects into one spot

Pour some vinegar and a little bit of washing-up liquid into a small dish. The mixture will give off an attractive smell (of course from the insects’ perspective) and they will soon get trapped. Once they fly into the dish, the sticky washing-up liquid will never let them fly out again.

To make a trap like this you can use a jar; cover it with transparent foil instead of a lid. Using a toothpick pierce a few holes so that the flies could get inside.

Another way to handle the problem is lighting a few scented candles

The best option here would be a candle of intensive menthol smell or scented oil. This method will not only repel the insects, but it will also create some romantic atmosphere.

    Peppermint

If you are not a big fan of scented candles, you can put some mint leaves all over the places where fruit flies were spotted. If you want to use fresh mint, remember that the plant needs appropriate watering and sun exposure.

Which one will you test now?
