How to mow the lawn so that it takes the least amount of time and effort and is done efficiently? In this article, we will tell you how to do it and point out the mistakes people most often make when mowing their lawn.

How do you mow a lawn quickly and efficiently?

There are a few basic rules to bear in mind if you want a nice-looking lawn but don't want it to take up too much of your time. Here are the most important things to remember.

Use the right mower for the size of your lawn

Petrol mowers are the most common choice for mowing typical home lawns. But there are many more models on the market to choose from.

Manual reel mowers are driven solely by the user and are an inexpensive and environmentally friendly choice for very small, flat lawns.

Electric lawn mowers are quieter and less expensive to operate than internal combustion models. However, they are also heavier and more expensive. Corded models are best for small lawns. Corded models are best for small lawns, while cordless mowers are recommended for medium-sized gardens. They make it easier to mow between trees and bushes.

Self-propelled mowers are more expensive than other models, but they save time in case of really large lawns. However, they are not safe to use on terrain with steep slopes.

Care for your mower and clean it regularly

Keep your mower blades sharp and free of dirt. Blunt blades cut grass blades improperly, which leads to various grass diseases. If your lawn looks ragged after mowing, it's probably time to sharpen the blades. This should be done 1-2 times per year. You can disassemble and sharpen the blades yourself if you have a bit of knowledge on the subject. Otherwise, it's a good idea to leave it to the professionals. Even if the blades don't need sharpening, check for damage every 3-4 mowings. And be sure to brush or flush away any grass residue that builds up on the blades and the underside of the mower.

Don't cut the grass after rains

Set the mowing height according to the type of grass. Many people mow their lawns too short (less than an inch) in an effort to reduce the frequency of mowing. A lawn cut too short is susceptible to weed invasion and diseases. In addition, the tips of the grass stalks are more likely to turn brown. The ideal grass height should be between 2 and 3 inches.

And remember not to mow your lawn after it rains. When you do, you'll dull the blades and make the grass more susceptible to disease.

Your lawn will tell you itself when it’s time to get mowed

For some people mowing their lawn is a habit repeated every Saturday afternoon. This is not the best method, though. In this case, it is best to use the 1/3 height rule. This involves always mowing only one-third of the total height of the grass. This will keep your lawn looking much healthier and maintain its nice appearance.
