Bird excrements on your clothes a step-by-step guide

First you need to let it dry completely. Then scratch it off with a blunt knife or a spoon. Once it’s done, you get down to the stain.

First and foremost, always use cold water. Bird poo contains proteins so hot water might make it penetrate the piece of clothing. This will only make things worse and the stains will get even more stubborn.

First mix a detergent with water and pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Apply it onto the stain and wait until it soaks into the fabric. Then apply it once again.

Make sure that you wear protection gloves at all times so that you won’t risk bacteria exposure.

    Scouring and wiping

Take a cloth and rub the cleaning agent in. Still, don’t press too hard – if you do, it will be really difficult to remove the stain.). When foam forms, remove its excess. If necessary, repeat the procedure.

The stain may not come off at first attempt. Either way, do not stop working or else the piece of clothing will go dry. The last thing you want to happen is the stain going dry and solid.

If the stain is on a very smooth surface (e.g. a rubber shoe) use a toothbrush and scour it properly.

    It’s almost gone!

When you are sure that it’s no use applying any more detergents, it’s probably time to do the hand washing. You might be tempted to wash the entire piece of clothing, but it’s a really bad idea.

Instead turn on the faucet and pour water on the outside. High pressure of water will pick up the remaining excrement. Finally, wash the whole piece of clothing in the machine.

    DIY replacements of commercial detergents

To get rid of bird poo, you can use mixtures of:

    • vinegar and water

    • water and baking soda

    • sparkling water

    • peroxide

Apply any of these mixtures on a cloth and gently wipe the stain. Finally wash it off with cold water and wash in the machine.

If the stain remains after the piece of clothing has been washed, it means the coloring agent present in the excrement has sunk into the fabric. If this is the case, give the piece of clothing a bath in a solution of lukewarm water with a stain remover containing active oxygen. After several hours wash it.
