Mandragore – the Largest Building in the World Cleaning the Air. This Is the Construction of the Future

This is what the people behind the Mandragore project have come up with!

New York is not one of the most eco-friendly cities in the world. However, its authorities are gradually implementing new projects to improve the situation. As part of the ‘City of Tomorrow’ project, the place is to become carbon neutral by 2050. As part of it, the Mandragore project was presented.

The futuristic vision of the building assumes 737 meter-tall structure with infrastructure completely eradicating carbon dioxide emission into its environment.

The idea was developed by Rescubika, a French architectural design studio. The structure was designed to make it fit onto the Roosevelt Island in New York. The idea of a residential tower block is to resemble a hybrid of a human being with a plant. Its gnarled form is supposed to symbolize the harmony of man and nature and remind us to protect our environment by living in symbiosis with wildlife.

The design of the building assumes 160 floors, which is going to make it the tallest structure in the city. It is also going to have 36 wind turbines, 1,600 trees, 24,500 square meters of plant wall and 7,000 square meters of solar panel wall. Thanks to the plenty of plants, Rescubika will absorb a great amount of carbon dioxide at the same time minimizing its own carbon footprint. Thanks to independent renewable energy supply, the tower will be almost completely independent of the city power supply system.

The concept also includes a political notion referred to as ‘energetic sobriety’. It suggest changes in our lifestyle and society as such that may bring about carbon neutrality. That is why each apartment will have a study so that its residents will be able to work from home, without travelling to work. As more and more companies offer distant work options, such solution would be really beneficial for the people living there.

Although the building is still a concept, it is very likely that the city authorities will seriously consider it in the future.
