If you regularly feed your giles, tits, eaters, chaffinches or sparrows, make edible garlands in December instead of a traditional feeder. Thanks to them you will help the birds survive the winter and the trees and shrubs in your garden will gain a nice decoration.

    Twine and Fruit

Before starting work, equip yourself with a strong and quite thick thread or string. Then prepare a needle with a large eyelet ring and a whole bunch of treats.

    To Make The Garland:

    • fresh cranberries, blueberries, grapes,
    • unsalted popcorn,
    • soaked in water dried apricots, plums, raisins,
    • whole-grain flakes (no sugar or other sweeteners added),
    • peanuts in the shell,
    • slices of raw apples and oranges,
    • small pieces of wholegrain bread.

Remember not to serve unhealthy, old or mouldy food to birds, which may harm them.

    Chains and Wreaths

Once you have finished all the necessary things, all that remains is to sequence the food. You can create one long garland and wrap it on a conifer like a Christmas tree light. A few smaller chains freely hanging from the tree also look impressive. An interesting solution is to thread the food on a flexible wire and form a chosen shape (wreath, heart, bell, star) from it.

To make it look decorative, try to mix food of different colors and textures. A white and red garland made of cranberries and popcorn looks phenomenal.

You can traditionally hang the garland on a tree or wrap it around the balcony railing. It will also look good on the fence or fence.

Go ahead and make few for our little friends!
